About the Show

We talk about all kinds of great books and interview the people who write them. We also feature interviews and explorations about creativity in all professions and walks of life.

Named an Apple Podcasts "New & Noteworthy" show in 2016, we were also a 2019 People's Choice Podcast Awards nominee. Host J. Alexander Greenwood is an award-winning writer, public relations consultant, speaker, and former journalist. He is best known as the author of the John Pilate Mysteries.

How We Record Your Interview

We record via Zoom (preferred) or Skype. We use only the audio portion, so no need for hair and makeup!

Most recording sessions are 30-45 minutes in length. Interviews may be edited for clarity and sound quality. Please note: We do not have capacity or staffing for pre-interview phone calls/Zoom sessions with those requesting to be a guest on the show. If you want to get a feel for the show, please listen to previously-broadcast interviews.

All interviews become the property of Mysterious Goings On. We reserve the right to use excerpts of interviews for promotional purposes or as parts of "best of" shows in perpetuity.

WHY GUEST ON OUR SHOW?

  • We do our homework. This means intelligent, thoughtful questions.
  • We have conversations, not interviews. This is more interesting and entertaining than working down a list of pre-set questions.
  • You reach people who care about writing, books, and creativity. No, we're not the largest audience out there, but our listeners are fiercely dedicated to our subject matter.
  • Our host is a writer. Alex cares about the craft, and enjoys speaking about all aspects of writing and creativity in general.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

Before pitching to be a guest, please check out our previous shows to get a feel for what we do and for what we have covered recently: MGOPod.com. We're always looking for interesting authors, people who use creativity in their careers, and folks who are making a difference in their communities.

New writers are featured often--in a supportive and encouraging way. We occasionally delve into the paranormal and the unknown, fun stuff like that. If you have something you think will be unique and unlike recent show topics/guests, please contact us!

Please note before applying to appear on the show:

  • Guests must use an external microphone and earbuds/earphones. The built-in mic in most computers is inadequate for a good listening experience. Our data indicates people turn off episodes with bad audio almost right away--nobody wants that!
  • If you are scheduled to appear on the show, you must complete and return our pre-show interview no less than 5 business days before your scheduled interview or we will ask you to reschedule.
  • Books for review must be sent at least 30 days in advance of the interview.

IMPORTANT:

We view our guests as partners. Therefore, guests agree to share the link to their appearance on their social media channels and newsletters. If you do not have a platform and/or do not agree to share your appearance on the show, we may not be able to book you.

So, when you apply to be on the show, please share your plan to promote your appearance. Something simple like this:

"If I were to appear on your show, I’d be happy to share it with my platform at least three times. I have roughly 1,500 email subscribers with a 25-29% open rate depending on the month. My YouTube channel (link) and TikTok (link) are growing. I also have Pinterest, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn (share links)."

Please share this information when you pitch yourself or your client to be a guest. Thank you!
